Class times and location
Our family classes are aimed at all ages, grades and abilities focusing on enhancing personal fitness, confidence and flexibility as well as developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of the formal Taekwondo syllabus to produce effective taekwondo practitioners.
Wednesday evening Family Class: 6.15pm-7.30pm
On most Wednesdays following the family class, we run a short 25-minute technical session from 7.35pm-8pm concentrating on specific aspects of the formal syllabus. Attendance at these are voluntary and feature as part of the monthly training fees.
Saturday Morning Family Class: 10.45am-12.00pm
Additional Sessions
Black Belt training and Instructor Development Sessions
Prior to the Saturday morning family class, regular black belt training support sessions are run to focus on higher level skills. The aim of these additional FREE sessions are to help prepare students for their black belt gradings giving opportunity to develop more advanced techniques which are not so easy to practice in family classes.
We also run FREE Instructor Development sessions for senior grades (minimum blue belt) and instructors whom regularly assist or teach in the club. The aim is to enhance understanding and capability in teaching principles and how to teaching specific aspects of the syllabus. This ensures that we all teach the same things and in the same way, ensuring a high standard of delivery.
Technical Workshops, Seminars and Courses
The club also runs additional technical workshops, seminars and courses, usually on a Saturday afternoon, following the family class looking at specific aspects of Taekwondo in much greater detail to refine skills and knowledge at particular belt levels.
In-house technical workshops run by the club would cover: competitive sparring techniques and combinations; coloured & black belt patterns including understanding the practical application of incorporated techniques from a self-defence perspective as well as theory and practice in developing Power [breaking] techniques.
A range of additional seminars and training courses are organized throughout the year for our own students, wider TSTUK students and the local community. These might include things like self-protection awareness, non-escalatory dis-engagement and self-defence techniques; technical seminars from Taekwondo Masters; Formal Assistant Instructor Courses run as well as Sports-specific First Aid Training courses (led by an NHS A&E Consultant).
Training costs - monthly training fees
We run two different payment options to give flexibility to our students. You can opt to pay monthly for access to the twice-weekly family classes or a ‘pay-as-you-train’ option for more irregular attendees (however this does work out a lot more expensive per session). For the monthly subscription option, payments are required at the start of every month by Standing Order regardless of attendance (paying ahead for the month’s training).
As a family club, we also offer very significant family discounts for family participation. Family rates are highly competitive for many other against any other Taekwondo or other Martial Art organization in the region. Discounts increase for each family member that trains.
There are no minimum payment duration terms or contracts at our club!
